A building furnished at knee height
A childcare center looks like no other building we plan for. Tables barely reach an adult’s knee, sinks and toilets are built low, and the most important surfaces sit lower than an adult’s belt. Little fingerprints cover the glass up to the height a child can reach, and most of the day’s crumbs, paint and play dough end up on the floor or the rug.
In San Jose, these programs fill many kinds of space: suites in neighborhood shopping centers, wings of church and school campuses, centers inside office parks and freestanding buildings with a fenced play yard out back. Each has its own layout, but they share one deadline. Everything has to be ready before the first family comes through the door in the morning.
Infant and toddler rooms
The rooms for the youngest children carry the most detail. Crews wipe crib rails and end panels, the changing counter and the shelves around it, feeding-chair trays, and the low cupboard doors that toddlers grab to pull themselves upright. Diaper pails and every other bin are emptied, wiped inside the lid and given fresh liners.
Floors in these rooms are crawled on, so the crew treats them as a work surface. Hard floors are damp-mopped wall to wall, and the soft play mats your teachers set out get wiped and returned to the spot where they found them. Your director’s room checklist decides the sequence, visit after visit.
Preschool classrooms, cubbies and cots
A preschool classroom ends the day with glue on the tables, sand near the sensory bin and a few markers under the chairs. Crews clean tabletops and chair seats, wipe the cubby fronts and coat hooks, dust the low shelves where books and bins sit, and clean the classroom sink and its counter.
Rest-time cots and mats are wiped down and stacked back where your staff keeps them. Light switches, door levers and the gate latches between rooms are wiped every night, since small hands and adult hands both reach them all day. Rugs in reading corners are vacuumed, and a deeper extraction can be booked through commercial carpet cleaning.
Child-size restrooms and handwashing stations
Small toilets, low sinks and step stools all get cleaned and sanitized, along with the partitions, the mirror and the floor around each fixture. Handwashing stations in classrooms are cleaned to the same standard as the ones in the restroom.
Every visit tops up soap, towels and tissue. Centers that prefer not to order and store those goods can have them delivered, with dispensers installed, through our janitorial supplies program while the crew handles refills.
The front door, sign-in desk and parent hallway
Parents form their impression of a center at the entry. Crews clean the door glass inside and out, the sign-in tablet or counter, the hallway cubbies and the bench where children pull on their shoes. The walk-off mats get vacuumed, and the floor by the stroller parking spot is mopped.
The director’s office, the staff break room and the staff restroom stay on the plan too, with desks dusted around paperwork and the kitchenette counters, sink and microwave cleaned. Outside, porters can pick up litter along the entry walk and parking area.
Floors that take paint, juice and wheels
Classroom floors in childcare centers are usually vinyl tile or sheet vinyl, chosen because they wipe clean after art projects and snack time. Over a year, the finish wears thin along the paths to the door and the sink. A strip-and-refinish on VCT can be booked through commercial floor care for a holiday closure or a long weekend, so the new finish cures while the rooms sit empty.
Lunch areas get chairs pulled out and the floor under each table cleaned every night, so the next day’s snacks start on a clean surface.
Who enters your center after hours
Directors want to know exactly who has keys. Every cleaner on your account is background-checked, and supervisors walk the rooms on quality inspections to confirm the checklist was finished. We carry insurance, bonding and workers’ compensation, and your center’s file gets our certificate of insurance.
Visits start after the last pickup and end well before the opening staff arrive, on the nights you choose. At the walkthrough, show us the alarm panel, the rooms your staff locks and any classroom setup that should be left in place for the morning. For recurring service across a larger campus, our school cleaning page covers classrooms, gyms and offices on a term calendar.
A few useful answers
Common questions.
How late can cleaning start after parents pick up?
Crews arrive once the last child has gone home and your closing staff have locked up, on whichever evenings you choose, and finish before opening.
Are cots, cribs and changing counters part of the nightly visit?
Yes. They are wiped down in the order your room checklist sets, then cots and mats are restacked where your teachers keep them.
Can classroom floors be refinished without closing for a weekday?
Yes. Strip-and-refinish work is scheduled over a weekend or a holiday closure, so the finish has time to dry before children are back.
Will crews leave our classroom setup in place for the morning?
Yes. Show us at the walkthrough which rooms are set up for the next day, and crews clean around those displays and activity stations without moving them.
Can the director's office and staff break room go on the same plan?
Yes. Offices, the staff kitchenette and staff restrooms are cleaned on the same visits as the classrooms, with a separate checklist for each room.
