What a full day of appointments leaves behind
By closing time, a veterinary practice has hosted dozens of anxious dogs, carriers of unhappy cats and the occasional rabbit or parrot, along with every owner who came in with them. The floor shows it first: tracked-in mud, loose fur drifting into corners, a few accidents mopped up between visits. Door glass ends the day smudged with nose prints at Labrador height.
Animal-care buildings here range from one-doctor offices in retail strips up to large emergency and referral hospitals that never close. A small practice might need three evening visits a week; a hospital with a treatment floor and overnight wards needs a plan built zone by zone. Either way, the next morning’s first client should walk into a room that looks and smells fresh.
Waiting room, scale and check-in counter
The waiting room is where owners decide how much they trust the practice. Crews vacuum fur out of seat seams and from under the benches, wipe down the reception counter, card terminal and pens, and clean the platform scale where every patient is weighed. Separate dog and cat waiting areas are treated as separate rooms.
Shelves of prescription diets and treats get dusted, the brochure rack straightened, and entry glass cleaned inside and out at nose height and above. The hard floor is cleaned edge to edge so loose hair doesn’t collect along the baseboards.
Clinic odor usually starts at the floor and the trash rather than in the air. Crews pull every liner, wipe the inside of each lid, and mop with fresh solution room by room instead of pushing one bucket through the whole building.
Exam rooms done the way your team does them
Every practice has its own order for an exam room, and our crew follows yours: exam table, counters, the sink, cabinet pulls, door handles, then the floor. Disinfecting is done with EPA-registered products that remain wet until the dwell time on the product label has passed, so nothing is wiped away early.
After a contaminated case, the surgery suite or any exam room can get a terminal clean booked for that night. Procedure rooms and the dental station are worked by cleaners trained in bloodborne-pathogen safety.
Treatment floor, surgery and the back hallways
Behind the exam rooms sit the treatment floor, the surgery suite, the imaging room and the corridor to the wards. Your medical staff decides which of these the crew enters, at what point in the night and in which order. Within those limits, crews clean counters, cabinet fronts, light switches and floors, and they leave equipment, instruments and medications exactly where your team keeps them.
For hospitals with animals staying overnight, the crew works the ward hallways quietly and only when your on-duty staff gives the go-ahead, so recovering patients are not disturbed. A grooming or bathing area, if your practice has one, gets its floor and the splash zone on the walls cleaned once the tubs are drained for the day.
The front office and client records
A veterinary front office holds client accounts, payment records and patient histories. Cleaners on your account are trained in HIPAA-aware conduct. Desks are dusted around paperwork rather than through it, monitors and keyboards are wiped without anything on screen being touched, and no file is opened or moved.
Phones, headsets, printers and the pharmacy pickup window are cleaned on every visit, since they are handled all day by staff and clients alike. Locked pharmacy cabinets stay locked; crews wipe their doors and clean the floor in front of them.
Break rooms, restrooms and hard-working floors
Technicians and doctors work long, physical shifts, and the staff room should be a real break from the treatment floor. Crews clean the break room counters, microwave and refrigerator front, and the locker area. Restrooms for clients and for staff get a scrub, a disinfecting pass and fresh paper and soap, and dispensers can be supplied through our janitorial supplies service.
Sheet vinyl and tile in exam and treatment areas take constant wet mopping and claws. Periodic scrubbing, or a strip-and-refinish on VCT, can be booked through commercial floor care to restore the surface before it starts to look tired.
Working in the hours you are closed
Visits run after the last appointment and before morning surgeries, on the nights you choose. Each cleaner sent to your practice is background-checked in advance, and supervisors carry out quality inspection walks so a missed corner is caught by us. For a broader view of healthcare cleaning, see our medical facility cleaning page.
Tell us at the walkthrough which rooms are off limits, where the alarm panel sits and whether anyone stays on the treatment floor overnight. That conversation becomes the crew’s written route for your building, listing each room in the order your team prefers and noting any room to skip while a patient is inside.
A few useful answers
Common questions.
Can cleaning happen after our last appointment and before morning surgery?
Yes. Visits are scheduled in the window between closing and your first procedure of the day, on whichever nights you choose.
How long does disinfectant stay on an exam table before it is wiped?
For the full dwell time on the product label. Crews apply EPA-registered disinfectants in the order your practice sets and wipe only after that time is up.
Do you clean the separate dog and cat waiting areas?
Yes. Each is treated as its own room, with fur vacuumed from seats and corners and the floor cleaned edge to edge.
Will cleaners go near animals boarding overnight?
Only where and when your on-duty staff directs. Ward hallways are cleaned quietly with your team’s go-ahead so recovering patients stay settled.
Do crews handle our client files or computers?
No. Your cleaners are trained in HIPAA-aware conduct, and they leave charts, paperwork and monitors untouched while cleaning the desk around them.
